                 Today, on 23 March 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to great freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on the occasion of Martyrs' Day. He recalled their supreme sacrifice and praised their selfless service to the nation.

Martyrs' Day is celebrated in India to pay tribute to the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country.

Significance of March 23:
On this day in 1931, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged by the British government in Lahore Central Jail. Their martyrdom gave new energy to the Indian freedom struggle.

On this day, tribute meetings, patriotic programs and events to inspire the young generation are organized across the country.

Bhagat Singh (1907-1931) was a revolutionary freedom fighter who fought against British rule. He was born on 28 September 1907 in Punjab (now Pakistan).

In short

1928: Bhagat Singh and his comrades assassinated Saunders to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai.

1929: Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw a bomb in the Assembly (without harming anyone) and shouted slogans of “Inquilab Zindabad”.

1931: He was hanged along with Sukhdev and Rajguru on 23 March.

Shivaram Hari Rajguru (1908-1931) was a brave Indian revolutionary who fought against British rule. He was born on 24 August 1908 in Pune district of Maharashtra.
